Deepening Self-Awareness through the Enneagram
Much of our ill health can be traced back to our stress, fear and anxiety --responses that are triggered differently in each of us. By working with an ancient wisdom tool called the Enneagram, you will learn more about your own personality and the personalities of others, and then use this growing awareness to open healthy alternatives to life-long negative responses.

Journaling as Self-Care
Many people journal for self-awareness, but journaling can aslo increase self-care and compassion, which research shows are absolutely vital to physical health. Yet, for many, compassion for self seems an impossible discipline!

In this course you will learn:

  • writing exercises and short meditations to deepen your patience and self-acceptance,
  • strategies for joyful self-care.

Living Consciously
Building on the self-awareness and self-care courses, the third course of this unit will help you see how you unconsciously create unhealthy patterns, relationships and circumstances in your life. Once you are aware of your own activity, you can begin to empower yourself to create different patterns that nurture health, joy and well-being.

Spelunking

Within me a cave
fertile, wet
collecting pool of images
that bleed
through
the bedrock
drip
from
the side walls
here in darkness they grow
image
upon
image
in
stalagmite
proportions
Take the light of your own imaginings
risk to
enter the cave
enter the pool
bathe yourself in the liquid rock
from which my inner being
molds itself.

Women in Balance

Our lives get so out of tune with the needs of our body, spirit and emotions. Without the skills and down time to explore these needs a hunger results which we often fill with unhealthy choices - overeating, overspending, hoarding. This course will help you find the down time you need and will give you skills to explore and relate to your needs in a new way.

1st Session: TBA
The first session will explore how we sense physical, emotional and spiritual hunger. We will discuss how they are all related pieces of the same pie. We will begin a daily stress log and examine how much stress is in our lives using the Holmes/Rahe stress indicator, the spiritual health checklist and seven special sress-reducers.

2nd Session: TBA
The second session will look at physical hunger and how we satisfy our appetite. We will look at the "stroke bank" and identify our position in it. We will explore unhealthy and healthy ways to fill our stroke bank. We will discuss the toxic effects of bad habits.

3rd Session: TBA
The third session will deal with emotional hunger. We will explore characteristics of people with low and high self-esteem. We will use a "flow of life" questionaire and discuss how to give ourselves a mental make-over.

4th Session: TBA
The fourth and last session will address spiritual hunger - we will define the sacred in our lives, what beliefs build us up and what beliefs trap us in unhealthy perceptions. We will discuss the significance of healthy rituals and explore tools that lead to sacred, healthy ways of being.

After these sessions end, those who wish to continue on this journey can join a women's affirmation circle that will meet once a month to continue encouraging one another in balanced well-being.

The Feminine Face of God

Explore the feminine sacred mystery within our patriarchal faith using mandala, collage and clay. Collage - we will define and reshape our feminine worship experience. Mandala - we will tune into the feminine cyclic rhythms of the cosmos. Clay - we will meditate on and explore the sacred significance of water, clay, slime, and breath as we shape a simple clay vessel for sacred ritual. No artistic skill required.

Why Not Become Fire?

Explore the power, poetry and surprise of prayer and allow the Potter to shape your poetic voice. Connect with the metaphors of awe-inspired prayer in the Psalms and the poetry of Anne Sexton and Walt Whitman. Discover the sensual imagery of love prayers in the Song of Solomon and the poetry of Mary Lauzon and Evelyn Heffernan. Immerse yourself in the imagery of anger and despair in the Psalms and the poetry of Evelyn Heffernan and Thomas Hardy. Then, embracing the sacred significance of water, breath, and clay - Create! - shape a small clay vessel for ritual prayer. The firing and refining of clay is much like our own creative process as the great Potter shapes, refines and ignites our imaginations and we become fire in the words we write and thoughts we speak.
